FXUS64 KOUN 181926 AFDOUN Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Norman OK 226 PM CDT Sun Apr 18 2021 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .UPDATE... Issued at 712 AM CDT Sun Apr 18 2021 Added the mention of sprinkles to north-central Oklahoma for a few hours early this morning. In addition, increased the cloud cover over that area to handle observations associated with core of passing s/wv trough. As implied, any precipitation that reaches the ground should be very light and brief. && .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Monday) Issued at 224 PM CDT Sun Apr 18 2021 Northwest winds will diminish toward sunset and become light southerly overnight. With light winds overnight and clear skies, some patchy frost cannot be ruled out by sunrise in low lying areas of western Oklahoma where some mid-30s are forecast. A southerly wind will be realized across the region tomorrow which will help temperatures reach the 70s for highs at most locations. However, this increase in temperature and southerly wind will be ephemeral. && .LONG TERM... (Monday night through next Saturday) Issued at 224 PM CDT Sun Apr 18 2021 A strong cold front will push across Oklahoma and western north Texas Monday evening/night. Strong wind gusts will develop behind the front, especially the first few hours after the frontal passage. Wind gusts to 45 mph are likely, mainly across western Oklahoma. An upper level disturbance will skirt northern Oklahoma Monday night into Tuesday morning. This may result in the development of light precipitation, especially across the northern third of Oklahoma. A mix or change to wintry precipitation is possible, especially across north central Oklahoma. The air mass behind the front will be rather cold and dry. Freezing temperatures are possible across northwest and west central Oklahoma by sunrise Tuesday. Daytime highs Tuesday afternoon will be in the upper 40s to mid 50s. A gusty northerly wind will produce a cold wind chill Tuesday morning and afternoon. As high pressure builds over the southern Plains Tuesday evening, the wind will become light and variable. Temperatures are expected to approach or fall below freezing across a large part of the area by Wednesday morning. High clouds may thicken across at least western Oklahoma by sunrise Wednesday, but this may only prevent a stronger and longer freeze. A cool night is expected Wednesday night, but a freeze is not. Another system will bring a decent chance of showers and storms by Friday. Better storms chances are expected across the eastern half of Oklahoma. A few strong thunderstorms are possible, but overall moisture will be meager for late April. Dry weather is expected next weekend with cool temperatures at night and warm/mild conditions during the afternoon. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1225 PM CDT Sun Apr 18 2021 VFR conditions will prevail, with a 2 to 3 hour window of VFR broken cigs in cu-stratcu to start the forecast across central Oklahoma. Otherwise, northwest winds will shift to southerly tonight and increase from southwest toward end of forecast period. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
